Matching the shape of the lampshade to the type of lamp
The first question that needs to be answered is "what lamp do we match the lampshade to?". All subsequent steps depend on the answers to this question. There are several main types of lampshades depending on the type of lighting:- Lampshades for pendant lamps and chandeliers - medium and large lampshades for single lamps or small lampshades for chandeliers and small pendant lamps, which are often used in the form of several lamps next to each other.
- Lampshades for ceiling lamps - the most common choice in this case are plafonds in the form of low cylinders or cuboids.
- Lampshades for bedside lamps - due to the fact that bedside lamps usually have small dimensions, small lampshades are also selected for them.
- Lampshades for table lamps - the sizes of table lamps can be very diverse (from very small to very large lamps with a base height close to 100 cm), so the size of the matching lampshade should be individually selected.
- Lampshades for floor lamps - their design is similar to the lampshades for table lamps, but the sizes are usually larger.
- Lampshades for wall lamps - small lampshades that can have a characteristic shape that allows them to adhere to the wall. Plafonds, characteristic of ceiling lamps, are also an interesting idea for large wall lamps.
Cylinder lampshade
It is worth noting that cylinder lampshades are one of the most common forms. Moreover, they will work in any type of lamp - it all depends only on its design. The simple shape of the cylinder lampshades gives great possibilities in terms of choosing their final size. You can choose a low cylinder lampshade with a large diameter or a tall cylinder lampshade with a relatively small diameter, resembling a tube. Large and flat cylinder-shaped lampshades are perfect as elements of modern hanging lamps. Tube lampshades are a good complement to narrow table or floor lamps. Besides, tube lampshades are also an idea to create a smaller pendant lamp.
Conical lampshade
Another classic shape is the conical lampshade. They are most often used as lampshades for table lamps, but large conical lampshades are also a form of hanging lamps. Here we can distinguish various forms of cone shape. You can choose timeless conical lampshades with a large angle of inclination. A more delicate form will be conical lampshades with a smaller difference in diameter between the upper and lower parts. Also in this case, we can offer you high lampshades, similar to the previously mentioned tube - only in the shape of a cone. Moreover, this is a very interesting form that will certainly emphasize the original, narrow lamps. Another idea that draws attention are hanging lamps with low conical lampshades, which strongly expand downwards. It is a form that introduces a large amount of light into the interior, and is additionally an extraordinary decoration.
Oval lampshade
The type of lampshades that is growing in popularity are oval lampshades. It is a very timeless shape, nevertheless it can be created in several versions. These can be both classic oval forms, as well as shapes referring to conical lampshades with a smaller perimeter of the upper part than the lower one. The oval lampshade is the perfect solution for table lamps that are designed for narrow tables and consoles. The oval shape means that the lamp with a lampshade will take up much less space than when using a cylinder or conical lampshade. Thanks to this, the oval lampshade will be perfect as an element of a lamp on a narrow console. On the other hand, the oval lampshade looks great as a very large form. In this version, it will be perfect as an oval lamp hanging over a long table.
Layered lampshades
We have already introduced you to the classic lampshades for lamps. Time for more unusual forms! Layered lampshades are one of the interesting examples. All in all, layered lampshades are actually several separate lampshades of different heights, connected by a metal frame. The number of layers should be adjusted not only in terms of aesthetics, but also light transmission. Their form resembles chandeliers more than classic lampshades, which is why they are most often an element of hanging lamps. Although, nothing stands in the way of using them as elements of table or floor lamps.
Lampshades in non-standard shapes
